Layers: Description: Census 5-Year ACS Data 2018-2022 at tract geography with an equity index score calculated per tract. Higher scores mean a greater concentration of marginalized communities in the tract. To calculate an index score, several steps were followed: 1) Each percent estimate from the 10 ACS demographic indicators included in the dataset (indicated with a "p" prefix) is assigned a z-score per tract. A z-score quantifies how far above or below the regional average the value is. 2) The ten z-scores are each put on a scale from 0-100 based on minimum and maximum values. This is done to avoid overemphasizing indicators that are simply more variable than others. 3) The ten scaled z-scores are grouped into three domains based on common themes. These domains are Economic Status, Mobility Barriers, and Race & National Origin. For each domain, the mean of the scaled z-scores is calculated creating three domain scores. 4) The three domain scores are averaged to calculate the final index score. Data were further processed by the Jefferson County Business Innovation and Technology (BIT) GIS team to include only blocks within Jefferson County, Colorado and add an attribute identifying if the block is in a city or unincorporated.
