CAPTURE CRITERIA: Sidewalk centerlines are compiled in 2D. This feature includes paved sidewalks, paved trails, painted crosswalks, and suggestions of network features that may be missing. Features with width greater than 3 feet are included. Sidewalks are defined as paved paths for pedestrians, "Point A to Point B" use. Trails are defined as paved walkways intended for recreational purposes. This layer includes all public sidewalks (e.g. adjacent to public buildings, schools, roads, and commercial buildings, or maintained by a public entity) and public trails (e.g. in public parks, maintained by a public entity). This feature does not include private sidewalks (i.e. serving individual residences, contained within campuses, malls, apartment complexes, mobile home parks, or commercial complexes) except where the sidewalk maintains connectivity with the public sidewalk network. If the sidewalk widens and the centerline shifts, a "jig" is created to keep the centerline connected. The sidewalk does not stop at intersections, at parking aprons or at driveways, but these areas are delineated as separate segments within the line feature and attributed differently (e.g. for sidewalk centerlines meeting a parking apron, the portion of the sidewalk centerline within the apron is a different line segment and is attributed as an "other path.”) If the sidewalk crossing the parking lot is visually apparent, the sidewalk centerline continues unbroken but if not, the parking apron supersedes. For sidewalk centerlines meeting a driveway apron, the sidewalk supersedes. One intended use of this dataset is routing and modeling of pedestrian trips. Covered walkways near transit-oriented development areas are included even though the actual path cannot be seen from the imagery. ATTRIBUTION: Unique ID, Type (Sidewalk, Crosswalk, Possible Missing Sidewalk, Possible Missing Crosswalk, Other Path, Best Fit Line). A "sidewalk" is a paved path for pedestrians; most often on the side of the road. A “crosswalk" is a marked (painted) part of the paved road where pedestrians have right of way to cross. Crosswalks within parking lots are not included. A “possible missing sidewalk” is an area on the side of a road where a sidewalk appears to be missing. An indication of a missing sidewalk would be existing sidewalks in the surrounding blocks. This feature should not be paved and should not cross the road. Segments with this attribution can be delineated up to 650 feet to maintain connectivity in the layer. A “possible missing crosswalk” is a crossing of a major street that doesn’t currently have crosswalk paint markings. Major streets are indicated by road surface markings. Segments with this attribution can be delineated up to the width of the street to maintain connectivity in the layer. An “other path” is a line segment that doesn’t meet criteria for the other types but needs to be included in the data set to maintain connectivity. An example would be a sidewalk or possible missing sidewalk that breaks at a parking apron. The section that covers the parking apron would be an “other path.” Segments with this attribution can be delineated up to 650 feet to maintain connectivity in the layer. A “best-fit line” is a straight feature drawn through a decorative sidewalk pattern (e.g. on a school campus). It indicates that a sidewalk is there but does not trace all pedestrian possibilities. Sidewalk widths are available to project partners, courtesy of Felsburg, Holt, and Ullevig. CHANGE FEATURES: This dataset is an update to previously collected data. Features were originally delineated from 2014 aerial imagery, updated in 2016, 2018, 2020, and then again in 2022 to create this dataset. Examples of change that are captured include but are not limited to: new features, change in attribution, and modifications that reach or exceed the threshold for initial collection of this feature. Additions refer not only to truly new features in the built environment but also to features that are added based on a larger extent of capture. Please refer to extent shapefiles for 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022 feature captures before doing change analysis. Modifications are marked even if only a small portion of the feature has been changed. A separate change layer is available to show only those features that were delineated in 2022. SOURCE DATA: This feature was compiled from DRCOG 2022 Denver Regional Aerial Photography Project (DRAPP) imagery. This imagery is 4-band RGBIR color orthoimagery with a GSD (Ground Sample Distance) of 0.5 foot for 3-inch imagery, 1 foot for 6-inch imagery, and 2 feet for 12-inch imagery. Imagery was collected in the spring with a Vexcel Ultracam Eagle aerial sensor. The various map features are assigned unique digital layers according to Kucera's general layering scheme (or a more "custom" layering scheme if specified by the client). "Layering" meaning the separation of like features to a unique digital level that can be viewed, located, counted or otherwise manipulated to the exclusion of other features/levels. Planimetrically, a good example of the layering system would be that all of the major buildings such as houses and commercial buildings be placed on their own layer named something like "BUILDINGS" so they can more easily be viewed or worked separately from more inconsequential structures such as small storage buildings or sheds that would be own their own layer named "MINOR BUILDINGS" or whatever the client would like those particular layers named. Other planimetric examples of the use of layering would be the use of separate digital layers to differentiate paved roads from unpaved roads, treelines from brushlines, ditches from streams, etc. The finished mapping is then usually gridded, the appropriate title block information is added (info regarding the scale, contour interval, mapping location, client name, date of photography or Lidar collection, etc...), translated from Kucera's in-house editing software - primarily VrOne - into the digital format and layering scheme requested by the client (usually AutoCAD and/or ESRI) and delivered to the client on a DVD or by means of electronic delivery (email or posting to the FTP site for the client to download).</srcDesc>
